| 0:09 | with a full ability to breathe through their nasal airway passage. |

| 0:16 | which makes life terribly difficult |
| 0:18 | for these children as they grow up. |
| 0:19 | In poorer areas, there is no way for many of these people |
| 0:22 | to get healthcare, meaning thousands of them |
| 0:24 | grow up without ever having the opportunity to receive surgery, |
| 0:27 | which results in bullying and social isolation. |

| 0:31 | that is making a big difference in communities all around the world. |

| 0:36 | 40 years ago, my husband and I |
| 0:38 | were asked to go to the Philippines. |
| 0:40 | We landed in sites one after the next, |
| 0:43 | and we saw 300 children with cleft lip and palates. |
| 0:48 | We just didn't know what to do |
| 0:50 | We said, let's do what we can, |
| 0:51 | and we were able to do 40. |
| 0:53 | The rest, we had to turn away |
| 0:54 | So, we said to ourselves, |
| 0:56 | okay, well, we should go back. |
| 0:58 | We should at least finish. |
| 1:00 | This was the start of Operation Smile |

| 1:03 | they've been able to achieve over 400,000 |
